Every once in a while, we want to take a moment here on the blog to recommend some of our partners who have done a lot for us. Today, we want to make sure that you know about Auxano. Will Mancini and his team of clarity evangelists have been invaluable to us here at Wayfarer, and we believe it’s worth your investigation to find out more about how Auxano could help your organization.
Recently, Auxano asked us to tell the story of how the clarity process helped us as an organization. Here’s what we wrote. You can find out more about Auxano and subscribe to their brand new online resource that’s full of other insights here. It’s free, so check it out.
The Wayfarer Clarity Story
We knew consultants were great for big bureaucracies with multiple layers of excess spending and miscommunication. But what could the process bring to a theological and artistic movement like Wayfarer? Still, spurred on by the gentle nudge of a trusted advisor, we took a chance and began a seven-month journey toward clarity through the Auxano process.
When our Auxano navigator came in to our organization we were both excited and skeptical. We weren’t sure we had the time or money to spin our wheels in a process that could cost us more of what we didn’t have. We knew we needed help, but we have never been very good at being told what to do. So the thought of a consultant coming in to give direction was not that appealing.
Auxano stepped in and stepped up to our unique and idiosyncratic environment and systematically dismantled what was correctly termed our “strategy born from necessity.” With a ferocious ability to listen and ask the right questions at the right time, our navigator helped us recover our unique missional identity, and in the process our excitement and passion to pursue it was reborn.
What we found in the process was that this seven-month journey was exactly what our movement needed most. We found someone who spent time listening to our culture. We found someone willing to challenge the process. We found someone who earned our respect and inspired our ideals again. And in the end, we found someone with the skills and expertise to coach us through the process of crafting our language and clarifying our future. Consider us the least likely converts of a clarity evangelist.
Today, now almost a full year removed from the process, our organization is not perfect. We still are on the journey of clarity in our visioneering process. But a whole lot has changed. We know more fully who we are called to be. Our vision of the future is clearer. Our language represents us well. Our hands are more in line with our hearts. And in the process, things like budgets and bankrolls and staff have grown. All of our problems are not solved. We still have tendencies to go back to our old way of serving the tyranny of the urgent. The budget and bankrolls still are tighter than we would like. But our hearts are healthy. And in that way clarity has made all the difference. – The Wayfarer Team
